What does the IPE designation mean?

The University of Michigan interprofessional education (IPE) curriculum is expected to grow rapidly over the next 5 years. We envision a curriculum that:

  • provides opportunities for all eligible students to achieve IPE competency as defined by their individual program by graduation
  • is based on a framework of 5 core competencies spanning three levels of development
  • is flexible enough to meet all IPE competency needs for all students

To achieve this goal, we are working to build a menu of IPE opportunities that includes not only traditional semester-based courses, but also clinical and field experiences, service learning, simulations, online learning modules and more.

Proposed IPE opportunities will  be reviewed by the IPE Curriculum Workgroup. Opportunities that are approved for IPE designation will be listed on the IPE Courses and Opportunities page. IPE approval does not replace the necessary curriculum approval processes within the individual schools.
