Beth Ammerman, DNP, is a clinical instructor at U-M School of Nursing. Previously, she spent many years working as a nurse practitioner in a family practice in Linden, Michigan. Accepting the U-M faculty position represented a change from the small-town private family practice setting of Hamilton Community Health Center, a federally qualified health center in Flint, Michigan. While she focused on teaching nurses of all levels in the past, she is now working mostly educating those seeking advanced-practice registered nursing degrees at U-M. Working at Hamilton provided an opportunity to work with the dental and nursing interprofessional education program that was launched in 2014. She found it interesting and enlightening watching the two disciplines closely mesh to provide very comprehensive care to underserved populations. Working with these students and dental faculty made her realize the importance of healthcare teamwork. She looks forward to being able to contribute more to IPE with what she gains through the IPE leadership fellows program.
