Danielle Furgeson

Danielle Furgeson, RDH, MS, DHSc, is a clinical associate professor in the division of dental hygiene, periodontics & oral medicine and is the graduate dental hygiene program director. Her doctoral studies focused on interprofessional education (IPE) in dental hygiene and accreditation standards.  She has continued to pursue IPE as the primary focus of her research endeavors. She has been involved in a number of interprofessional education and collaborative practice undertakings, such as the certificate for integrated behavioral health and primary care, offered through the U-M School of Social Work, and IPE-focused motivational interviewing workshops. While she continues in professional practice, she is a firm believer in interprofessional care for optimal patient outcomes.

Elisabeta Karl:

Elisabeta Karl

Elisabeta Karl, DDS, PhD, joined the U-M School of Dentistry as an assistant professor in the department of cariology restorative sciences and endodontics in 2014. She received her DDS degree at University of Brasilia, Brazil (where she also earned a master’s degree in pediatric dentistry) and completed restorative training at the University of Sao Paulo (FOP-Bauru). She earned a PhD in oral health sciences at U-M School of Dentistry, where she also recently accomplished her integrative medicine training. Her teaching interests include pre-clinic teaching and integrative dentistry. Her primary research interests are non-pharmacological, complementary and alternative approaches to reduce anxiety dental students with the use of breathing exercises, music and art therapy. She is also interested in interdisciplinary work with students.
