Leslie Smith, PT, DPT is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Michigan-Flint in the physical therapy department. Dr. Smith’s teaching responsibilities in the entry-level DPT program include cardiopulmonary, endocrine, metabolic, and integumentary systems. She has 20 years of clinical experience working in an acute-care hospital and practicing interprofessional care on a daily basis. Leslie Smith’s interest in interprofessional education (IPE) began three years ago while collaborating with OT faculty at Saginaw Valley State University to plan a one-day IPE event for physical therapy and occupational therapy students. Dr. Smith was involved in a study titled “Interprofessional Education Experience for Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Students Using Simulation,” which was presented via poster at the MIPERC in September 2015. Currently, Dr. Smith is involved with a study involving an IPE experience with the nursing department at UM-Flint.
