Dr. Mark Fitzgerald holds a DDS and a Masters of Restorative Dentistry from The University of Michigan. Since obtaining his DDS in 1980 he has been involved in teaching, research, and patient care both in private practice (1980 through 1990) and at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry (UMSOD). He is currently in his 12th year as Associate Chair of the Department of Cariology, Restorative Sciences and Endodontics. In that capacity, he is responsible for the Restorative Dentistry components of the DDS education program (60+ courses), manages 12 full time and 75 part time faculty, and is extensively involved in curriculum design. He has been the Principal or Co-Principal investigator on 11 grants ranging from basic science translational research to clinical trials of new dental treatment methodologies. He is currently taking the lead role in promoting Interprofessional Education (IPE) Experiences in didactic and clinic settings as part of the UMSOD’s IPE initiative. He currently is a member of the U-M Center for IPE Executive Committee and co-chair of the U of M campus wide IPE Curriculum Workgroup.
