Why Should Health Systems Care About Interprofessional Education? A Seminar to Develop the Value Proposition for Investing in IPE Activities
A shared experience among institutions advancing IPE is the challenge of developing, implementing and scaling meaningful experiential IPE. We propose that our IPE programs must invest greater energy in providing optimal experiential interprofessional team-based settings for our learners, but that this requires us to be partners in shaping these environments. Rather than selecting specific sites and asking, “can you take our students”, we should instead ask “how can we partner with you to help transform interprofessional practice in your setting?”

Organizational Structures of Big Ten Institutions That Support Interprofessional Education (IPE) Success
The Health Professions Accreditors Collaborative (HPAC) 2019 report provides guidance on processes academic leaders can use to establish quality interprofessional education (IPE) programming. Despite a myriad of evidence documenting the need for and benefit of IPE, challenges in the development, implementation, sustainability, and growth of these programs are well documented with a reported 60% of U.S. institutions lacking a systematic IPE plan. Heeding the advice from the HPAC document for institutional leaders to develop systematic approaches and collaborate across institutions, multiple Big Ten institutions have partnered to share structures/processes that can promote IPE success.

Prescribing for Geriatric Patients: A Novel Interprofessional Curriculum for Medicine and Pharmacy Students
Health professions students need training in interprofessional collaboration and geriatrics principles to meet the needs of an aging population. Polypharmacy is a common geriatric syndrome, which increases pill burden, adverse drug reactions, drug-drug interactions, and medical costs. Our interprofessional education team, led by a geriatrician and a pharmacist, developed a curriculum for medicine and pharmacy students focused on geriatric prescribing with the following educational objectives:

•Learn principles of medication reconciliation.
•Recognize unique needs of older adult patients.
•Compare and contrast how different professions approach geriatric patient interviews.
•Strengthen interprofessional communication and collaboration in patient care.

Social Infertility: A Narrative Review & Human-centered Design Application
Infertility is defined as the failure to become pregnant after 1 year of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse, highlighting physiological roots while omitting social drivers. Social infertility occurs “when social or relational factors, such as being single or in a same-sex relationship, limit one’s ability to become pregnant”. While the American Society of Reproductive Medicine released an expanded definition of infertility in October 2023 to include those navigating social infertility, these groups continue to be excluded from most other clinical infertility definitions and consequently, access to fertility services. In the last few decades, human-centered design has been embraced by health care systems, think tanks, and public health organizations to create empathetic and practical solutions for complex problems. Our team employed design-thinking to understand the unique experiences those navigating social infertility face to propose a service design solution.
