Exciting Changes Ahead for Health Professions Education (HPE) Day

The University of Michigan’s Health Professions Education (HPE) Day will be reimagined for 2026 after a one-year pause in 2025. This initiative aims to enhance collaboration and learning among healthcare professionals to improve patient care.

Dear University of Michigan Health Professions Education Community and Partners,

Health Professions Education (HPE) Day has been a signature event at the University of Michigan, fostering scholarship, collaboration, and innovation in health professions education and interprofessional practice among faculty, staff, and learners across our three campuses. Originating in 2015 as an evolution of the Medical School’s Department of Learning Health Sciences (DLHS) “Medical Education Day,” HPE Day has become a vital platform for connecting health professional and health science communities university-wide.

As we look to the future, we are thrilled to announce plans to reimagine and reinvigorate HPE Day for 2026, with the goal of creating an even more dynamic and impactful experience. To allow time for this exciting transformation, HPE Day will take a one-year pause in 2025 before returning in 2026 with a fresh vision and renewed energy. This decision was made collaboratively with DLHS, reflecting our shared commitment to delivering an event that continues to inspire and innovate.

Our vision for the reimagined HPE Day is ambitious and forward-thinking. We aim to continue amplifying the voices of our community, highlighting groundbreaking work in health professions and interprofessional education, and deepening connections between academic and clinical spaces. This next chapter will be led by the University of Michigan’s Center for Interprofessional Education (C-IPE) and Research. Innovation. Scholarship. Education. (RISE), building on the strong legacy of collaboration with the Department of Learning Health Sciences (DLHS). We are delighted that DLHS will continue as a key supporter of this reinvention.

Because we know many of you were looking forward to presentingin April, we are providing a list of alternative events where health professions education scholarship can be presented and collaboration fostered. We also encourage each of you to share information about other events aligned with interprofessional education, collaborative care, and health equity via this form. If you are organizing or participating in such initiatives, please let us know so we can celebrate and promote these efforts within the broader U-M community. Additionally, the call for nominations for the Michigan IPE Center Awards for Innovation and Excellence will be announced later this winter term. Please stay tuned!

We are eager to reflect, innovate, and deliver a conference in 2026 that builds on past successes to inspire and connect our community. We will provide opportunities for your ideas and input along the way as we embark on this exciting journey as a community. Thank you for your ongoing support, dedication, and contributions to health professions education and innovation at the University of Michigan.

With enthusiasm for what’s ahead,
