Mark Fitzgerald Honored with Inaugural Frank Ascione Award for Distinguished IPE Leadership
At the Michigan Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education’s (CIPE) 10-Year Anniversary Celebration, Provost Laurie McCauley presented the inaugural Frank Ascione Award in Recognition of Distinguished IPE Leadership to Mark Fitzgerald, DDS, former Senior Associate Dean for Community-Based Collaborative Care and Education and Professor of Dentistry at the U-M School of Dentistry.
Announcing the Winners of the 2025 Awards for IPE Innovation and Excellence
Each year, the Michigan Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (CIPE) honors those who have made outstanding contributions to advancing interprofessional education, practice, and scholarship through the Awards for IPE Innovation and Excellence. The awards celebrate both new, creative approaches and sustained excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and collaborative practice. The 2025 recipients were recognized at the Center’s 10-Year Anniversary Celebration, held at the Michigan League on October 9.
CIPE Celebrates 10 Years of Advancing Team-Based Learning and Care
On Thursday, October 9, the University of Michigan’s Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (CIPE) marked a decade of transforming how students, educators, and clinicians learn, lead, and practice together. The 10-Year Anniversary Celebration at the Michigan League brought together faculty, staff, and learners from across the university’s three campuses and Michigan Medicine to reflect on CIPE’s progress, honor the 2025 IPE Awards recipients, and look ahead to the future of interprofessional practice and education. The day’s theme, Healing Through Teamwork, Connection, and Relationships, was evident in every session.
Larry Prout Jr.’s Story Illustrates Impact of Interprofessional Care
At birth, Larry Prout Jr. was diagnosed with spina bifida, short bowel syndrome and other complex conditions. Now 24 and having undergone over 115 surgeries and care from more than 15 clinical teams at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, Larry’s life has become a testament to his own resilience and the power of interprofessional care.
