Call for nominations: 2024 Michigan Center for IPE Awards for Innovation and Excellence

The Michigan Center for Interprofessional Education (C-IPE) announces the 6th IPE Awards for Innovation and Excellence, featuring updated award categories honoring work in interprofessional education, practice or research.

These awards honor individuals and teams who have demonstrated excellence or innovation in practice, teaching, scholarship and/or leadership with regard to implementing and/or developing innovative, effective and sustainable interprofessional education (IPE) or interprofessional practice (IPP) in the University of Michigan health science schools, Michigan Medicine and/or community sites.

For 2024, the award names and descriptions have been updated to better reflect and honor the work being done throughout the University of Michigan and Michigan Medicine.

“People will notice that the names of the two awards have changed, reflecting a new way that we want to recognize the amazing work of our IPE community,” shared Rajesh Mangrulkar, director of C-IPE. “We are looking to celebrate new creative ideas, and also initiatives that have a deep track record of impact – and most times those aren’t found in the same initiative.”

Students, faculty and staff will be eligible for both awards this year. Previously, students were recognized separately from faculty/staff.

“We have been very intentional about working with our students on our teams as partners in creating these new IPE initiatives. So it made total sense to combine our faculty and student awards, not to mention the incredible contributions of our staff to our future direction,” said Mangrulkar.

This year’s award categories are:

Award for IPE Innovation: Awarded to an individual and/or team of students, staff, and/or faculty for innovation in interprofessional education, practice, or research. Innovation is defined as creative, new ideas that change existing approaches in teaching, learning, or research, in interprofessional education and practice settings.

Award for IPE Excellence: Awarded to an individual and/or team of students, staff, and/or faculty based on demonstrated excellence in education and curriculum development, organizational change, team-based collaborative practice, and/or interprofessional practice and education scholarship. Excellence is defined as the quality of being outstanding or extremely good, supported by evidence.

Award winners receive $1,000, presented to the individual or split among team members. Awards will be presented at Health Professions Education (HPE) Day on April 2, 2024.

All faculty, students and staff in University of Michigan health science schools and colleges (Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses) are eligible for nomination by colleagues and collaborators. Self-nominations are welcome.
