The Michigan IPE Center Awards for Innovation and Excellence

Award for IPE Innovation: Awarded to an individual and/or team of students, staff and/or faculty for innovation in interprofessional education, practice or research. Innovation is defined as creative, new ideas that change existing approaches in teaching, learning or research, in interprofessional education and practice settings.

Award for IPE Excellence: Awarded to an individual and/or team of students, staff and/or faculty based on demonstrated excellence in education and curriculum development, organizational change, team-based collaborative practice and/or interprofessional practice and education scholarship. Excellence is defined as the quality of being outstanding or extremely good, supported by evidence.

Purpose:

These awards honor individuals and teams who have demonstrated excellence or innovation in practice, teaching, scholarship and/or leadership with regard to implementing and/or developing innovative, effective and sustainable interprofessional education (IPE) or interprofessional practice (IPP) in the University of Michigan health science schools, Michigan Medicine and/or community sites.

Awardees will receive the following: $1,000 to the individual, or split among the team; recognition at an awards ceremony during the CIPE 10 Year Anniversary Celebration on October 9, 2025.

Eligibility:

All faculty, students, and staff in University of Michigan health science schools and colleges (Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses) are eligible for nomination by colleagues and collaborators. Self-nominations are accepted.

Awards Criteria:

Award for IPE Innovation - Demonstrated innovation in interprofessional education, practice or research, including but not limited to:

  • Developing and/or implementing IPE curriculum or co-curricular activities using innovative IPE learning experiences to enhance collaborative student learning.
  • Developing and/or implementing innovative IPE fieldwork/community partnerships.
  • Developing and/or implementing innovative workflows or processes to facilitate team-based care.
  • Developing and/or implementing innovative IPE assessment strategies.
  • Developing innovative student, staff, or faculty training/mentorship programs that enhance IPE/IPC.

Award for IPE Excellence - Demonstrated excellence in interprofessional education, practice, or research, that have demonstrated outcomes. These may include but are not limited to:

  • Developing/implementing organizational and/or institutional structures to support the development, implementation and collaboration of interprofessional education, practice and/or research.
  • Leading interprofessional education research and/or scholarship, grounded in relevant literature.
  • Developing/implementing evidence-based practices in the conceptualization and evaluation of IPE/IPC.

Nomination Requirements

  1. Nominee Information (full name, title, school, department, email, phone).
  2. Nominator Information (full name, title, school, department, email, phone, nominator’s relationship/interactions with nominee).
  3. Type of award being nominated for (student, faculty/staff; individual or team within each category).
  4. Letter of nomination (upload as a pdf; one page max). Provide specific examples demonstrating how the nominee(s) meet the criteria of the award.
  5. Letters of support from an individual(s) who can speak to the nominee’s qualifications for the award (two letters max; 500 words or less; may be from the chair, program director, associate dean or dean, clinical leadership, community partner, learner or other).
  6. Supporting examples (optional): publications, IPE syllabi/examples of IPE teaching tools, staff engagement data, patient experience data, etc.

The deadline for nominations is Fri, May 9, 2025.
